Fire History
Lake County is one of the most repeatedly fire-impacted counties in California. Between 2015 and 2020, the county experienced the Rocky Fire (69,624 acres), Jerusalem Fire, Valley Fire (76,067 acres, which destroyed the town of Middletown), Mendocino Complex, LNU Lightning Complex, and multiple smaller fires. The Valley Fire in 2015 remains one of the most destructive in county history. Lake County's combination of dry oak woodland, annual grasses, and limited road access creates extreme fire risk.
