Fire History
Modoc County's high desert and forest terrain in California's far northeast corner experiences regular fire activity. The 2021 Antelope Fire and Lava Fire burned in the county. Despite sparse population, the county's ponderosa pine forests and juniper-sage landscape create seasonal fire conditions. Communities near Alturas and along Highway 395 have limited but present fire exposure.
